Second Gold in Golden Demon - An Ultramarine Thunderhawk

Hey,

So I got me my third Demon, second gold, this time in the Epic Scale category!

If you've never seen this model, it's about 10cm/4" long. The doors are molded onto the side of the hull and there's no interior on the stock kit, I cut the doors open and printed out replacement doors and a full interior. The little dudes are Legions Imperialis Assault Marines that I cleaned up a bit and reposed a bunch.

The recipe is derived from my 30k Ultramarines, adapted for small scale. Less dirt and OSL, but more enamels for streaks, and I've given a lot more care to fine chipping, volumes and panel modulation.

It turned out great. I think it'd look significantly better with a backdrop, which would have also allowed me to get rid of the silly plastic rod, but hey, it worked well enough!

Onto some more pictures. I took these with a DSLR on my desk. As far as photo editing goes, I only played with curves to black out the background, and tuned down the plastic stem in a few photos where there was significant glare in it.

The interior was impossible to take photos off. The interior is very dark, and as soon as I got any light in, it was all blown out. Plus, my camera really didn't like focusing on the inside. I guess it's beyond my skillset, but in person, you can see it ok. There's a fourth marine inside, stuff on the walls and ladders and steps that match the full size model.

Thanks for taking a look!

  2. Congratulations! Well deserved, it was hard to sense the small scale from the GD pictures, so that's impressive!
